| Description |
Cas13a is a Class 2 Type VI CRISPR-Cas system RNA-guided RNA endonuclease. It possesses both RNA recognition and cleavage activities, mediated by conserved basic residues within its two HEPN domains. Upon target RNA recognition, Cas13a induces collateral cleavage of nearby non-targeted RNAs nonspecifically, a property that underlies its use in nucleic acid detection platforms.
